Helping you be in control.
Welcome, and thank you for visiting.
My name is Janet Nana Akyin, a psychodynamic counsellor providing short-term and long-term therapy for individuals who might need it.
Are you struggling every day or feeling overwhelmed in life? Maybe you're feeling stuck and can't move forward. Perhaps you have tried to talk to friends and family members but feel you need to be listened to. Whatever issues you face, you are not alone. I will support you and offer you a space to think and understand your situation.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I help you better understand your life and the problems you might be experiencing here and now. It is a type of counselling that seeks to understand, with an awareness that, so many times in our modern world, there are requirements to put on an act and, therefore, feel out of touch.
Based on the idea that our unconscious holds on to painful feelings and memories, psychodynamic ideas believe these are too difficult for your conscious mind to process. This is a journey we go together at your pace.
I offer both online sessions and in-person counselling at my Dartford-based practice. I work with adults across a range of issues from Anxiety, Separation, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, feeling stress, anxiety, panic attacks, relationship problems, Grief, loss or bereavement, Trauma and post-trauma stress, abuse, anger management, sexual abuse, issues with family or work.
I use Psychodynamic theories in my thinking. I think about what is being communicated unconsciously as well as literally. l hold the relationship between the counsellor and the client with great importance. As a psychodynamic counsellor, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where I encourage you to talk freely. During our sessions, we will explore:
About Me
Hello,
I am Janet Nana Akyin, a dedicated certified psychodynamic counsellor, trained at TCC and Birkbeck University, and proudly registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). With over two decades of experience, my journey has been deeply intertwined with supporting children and families through various challenges.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation, which can take place via telephone or online. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are seeking counselling, whether it would be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help. It allows me to learn more about you, your background, and your current struggles. I'll talk you through the counselling process, and it's an excellent opportunity for you to ask me questions. If you want to continue, let's set up a convenient time and day to schedule your first appointment: an initial assessment. Standard sessions are either in-person at my Dartford-based practice room, easily accessible from Bexleyheath, Swanley and Grays, or online via Zoom.
Online or in-person sessions last 50 minutes. Please get in touch for details of fees and an initial assessment. Payment can be made via bank transfer before your appointment.
Cancellation: Please give 48 hours notice before your session starts, or full payment is required.
Work hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am – 9 pm (depending on availability)
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07888 395865 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
